Sanders offered this commitment during a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, where he discussed his studio’s film adaptation efforts. He explained that the God of War series is similar to the studio’s current projects, which include The Wheel of Time, Reacher, The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power, Invincible, and The Boys. According to him, the company’s track record and experience with adaptations mean they know how to adapt God of War in the best possible way, saying: Sanders heaped praises on the personnel working to bring the project to life for their contributions. He stated the story will be about fathers and sons and families set against the epic landscape of the world they inhabit. He also revealed that God of War’s showrunner, Rafe Judkins, as well as its writers, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, have created a brilliant story that is “incredibly true to the source material.” He further said, “If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So, we think it’s going to be huge.” The live-action God of War series will feature the latter half of the franchise, which revolves around Norse mythology as opposed to the Greek mythology storyline of its early days. As a result, the series will explore the aftermath of the death of Kratos’s wife, Faye, where the father-and-son duo of Kratos and Atreus will have to journey to spread Faye’s ashes from the highest peak of the nine realms, Jotunheim, in accordance with her wishes. God of War is an action-adventure video game franchise that was adapted from various ancient mythologies and created by David Jaffe in 2005. Over the years, there have been 10 main titles published, in addition to multiple collections and remasters. The first seven titles were based on the Greek era, while the final three titles focuses on the Norse era. The franchise’s latest release God of War: Ragnarok set several new records and has since become the “fastest-selling first-party launch game in PlayStation history” with over five million sold within a week of its release. The game also won the PlayStation Blog Game of the Year award, as well as every other PlayStation Blog award it was nominated for. The God of War series is in its early production stages. And apart from the confirmation that the show is happening, no other information – cast, plot, director, locations, and the like – is available about the show.
