As a matter of fact, the Hollywood actress, who won an Academy Award for her role in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted, just revealed her training regimen to prepare for her role as Thena for the upcoming MCU movie.
What kind of training did Jolie undergo to prepare for Eternals?
Jolie is no stranger to starring in action films. After gaining prominence in the late 90s and early 2000s, Jolie starred in iconic action movies like 2001’s Tomb Raider, where she took on the role of Lara Croft. Although the film isn’t fondly remembered as one of the best video game film adaptations of all time, it was good enough to get a sequel in 2003. In total, Jolie’s time as Lara Croft saw box office returns of $400 million. Not too shabby at all. Jolie also starred in other action movies such as 2005’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith, 2008’s Wanted, and 2010’s Salt. However, as per an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jolie revealed that she didn’t go through the usual training process to prepare for Eternals. Because the MCU film will make heavy use of CGI, Jolie had to train several using weapons that she wouldn’t even be able to wield and use while filming. Jolie also revealed that she took ballet lessons. She describes the experience as something similar to a “puzzle” and admitted that she felt a “little nuts”.
Who else is joining Jolie in Marvel’s Eternals?
Even though Jolie is one of the biggest Hollywood stars, she’s not the lone star in Marvel’s Eternals. She’ll join a true ensemble cast that includes other A-listers as well like Salma Hayek. Other notable actors and actresses who are going to star in Marvel’s Eternals include Richard Madden and Kit Harringon of HBO’s Game of Thrones, as well as Stuber’s Kumail Nanjiani, Crazy Rich Asian’s Gemma Chan, Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry, and Dunkirk’s Barry Keoghan. Jolie and the rest of Marvel’s Eternal’s cast make up the titular team of superpowered alien beings who have come out of hiding to defend Earth against the Deviants, which are basically the same as the Eternals but only more malicious. Because of social media, fans have had a much closer look than ever before at how stars prepare for their upcoming roles. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the biggest example of this. His workout posts while filming the upcoming DCEU film, Black Adam, gave audiences a glimpse of how much prep work went into the filming of that superhero movie. While Jolie wasn’t as candid and revealing about all the training that she went through, we can expect her performance in MCU’s Eternals to get people talking once the movie releases on November 5.
