— MyTimeToShineHello (@MyTimeToShineH) December 28, 2022 MyTimeToShineHello, a reliable Marvel insider, first broke the news of Affleck switching to the other side. Specifically, the source claims that Ben Affleck and Marvel Studios are talking about the possibility of the DCEU actor playing Dario Agger. If true, Affleck could return to Marvel Studios albeit in an antagonistic role. Marvel Studios has done an excellent job of bringing lesser-known heroes and villains from Marvel Comics into the spotlight, and Dario Agger could be the next one to become more mainstream. Agger is the CEO of Roxxon Energy Corporation who sold his soul to become a literal minotaur. He’s commonly associated with Asgard, specifically aligning himself with Malekith and the Dark Elves as well as the Dark Council in an attempt to conquer Asgard. It’d certainly be interesting to see Affleck go from playing the role of the DCEU’s resident genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist to someone who could be best friends with Lex Luthor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, until we get official confirmation, it’s best to consider this as a very exciting but also very unlikely rumor. Affleck is technically still a part of the DC Extended Universe with at least two confirmed appearances for The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which premieres on June 16 and December 25, respectively. But, all bets are off once this year’s slate of DCEU films hits theaters. We’re not saying James Gunn will recast everybody, it’s just that he’s already done it. With Henry Cavill, The Rock, and even Gal Gadot, all no longer part of the DCEU, it’d make sense for Affleck to follow suit as well. Either way, we likely won’t find out what the future holds for Affleck as far as potential roles in the MCU until after he’s finished his contractual obligations with the DCEU.
