This is exactly what happened when Dwayne Johnson made his feud with Vin Diesel public back in 2016, a move that he now claims he regrets, but not necessarily because of the backlash.
Several Fast and Furious crew members thanked Johnson for standing up to Diesel
The Fast & Furious franchise talks big about family, both in and out of the film universe. Many of the cast and crew members are close to each other. However, just like every other family, butting heads is inevitable. Unfortunately, the feud between Johnson and Diesel is so big that Johnson has refused to appear in the last Fast & Furious film as well as future installments. The Rock wasn’t initially part of the racing franchise. He wasn’t there for the first four films when the series was mostly known for illegal drag racing and fast cars. But, by the time 2011’s Fast Five came along, The Rock was there to help usher the movies into a new age of heists and big action set pieces. Although Johnson’s arrival and the shift towards spies and heists meant bigger box office takes, things weren’t so rosy between everyone in the crew. By the time 2017’s The Fate of the Furious had started filming, Johnson wanted nothing to do with Vin Diesel that the only way to get him to come back was only if the two didn’t share any scenes together. It appears that this wasn’t enough to quell the beef as Johnson had some pretty choice words for his male costars, referring to them as candy asses, in a since-deleted Instagram post. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson regretted sharing that sentiment with the public. He admitted that he wasn’t having the best day at the time. But, even if he wished he did not make the feud public, he does not feel apologetic about what he meant. Johnson also stated that they talked it out in his trailer after the argument went viral, which made it clear to him that they simply weren’t on the same page. TLDR; Johnson would have liked to kept things private, but he still means every word that he said. As for Vin Diesel, the Fast & Furious actor shared his thoughts on the entire feud back in June, saying that his treatment of Johnson was all in the name of getting the best out of him. Naturally, Johnson had a pretty apt response for it. Either way, one thing that we can’t deny is that we would have loved seeing Johnson in F9. Unfortunately, it appears that The Fate of the Furious was Johnson’s last appearance in the main series. If it’s any consolation, Johnson is still set to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs in Hobbs & Shaw 2 with Jason Statham sometime in the near future. Speaking of, Johnson’s next film, Red Notice, is set to hit Netflix on November 12. The upcoming film will star Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. Meanwhile, the next Fast and Furious film will arrive on April 7, 2023.
