During the actor’s visit, the conversation turned to the WWE, which used to be Johnson’s playground before he became the king of Hollywood. The interviewer, David George-Cosh, asked Johnson if he will take a larger role in the company as either a director or an investor if the ownership changes. In classic Johnson fashion, the actor did not provide any explicit answer either way. On the potential sale of the company, Johnson said, “I’ve known Vince for a very, very long time and he’s a businessman. I think the key if there were a sale of the WWE is to make sure that whoever acquires that brand in that property, you’ve got to love the wrestling business. Of course, you can love the asset, and you can love everything that comes with it, but you got to love the professional wrestling business … because if not, then you could kind of see the writing on the wall; four or five years down the road, what will happen?” As a follow-up to the above question, George-Cosh asked if Johnson would join in a more active role, whether as a director or an investor. To this question, Johnson admitted he had spoken to Nick Khan, current WWE co-CEO alongside Stephanie MacMahon. However, he cast doubts on the potential of joining the company’s board. In his words, “Nick [Khan] and I have talked about that, and we always enjoy that over a bottle of Teremana. I love the wrestling business. I grew up in it. My grandfather [and] my dad started here in Canada, where [his father] was born. So, I’m not quite too sure if a board seat is in my future, but possibly other things are in my future, for sure.” This news is coming off the back of the abrupt retirement of Vince MacMahon, the owner of WWE for the past four decades, following an investigation into financial and sexual misconduct. MacMahon, however, left the company in the hands of his daughter, Stephanie and her husband, former pro wrestler, Triple H. Even though he had a “rocky” start, Johnson has come a long way since his debut as a WWE wrestler. His character, Rocky Maivia, was highly detested by audiences to the point they invented a chant, “Die, Rocky, Die,” to slate him. Fortunately, he not only turned the tide and won their respect, but he also became one of the most loved and illustrious pro wrestlers ever. He followed that up by becoming one of the most bankable and in-demand actors in Hollywood. While he may not assume a corporate role in the future, Johnson will continue to participate in the WWE in certain ways. Currently, the actor has a rumored feud with his cousin and equally charming pro wrestler Roman Reigns. Besides, he left the door open on potential roles during his interview and only time will tell what those roles can be. By the way, Johnson’s latest movie Black Adam based on the DC Comics character of the same name debuted in cinemas on Friday, the 21st of October. While critics had no love for the movie, early fans’ ratings are positive and the movie is on course to become Johnson’s biggest box office opening day. The actor also has a host of other movies in the works, including Red Notice 2 & 3, and the next Jumanji installment
