The action roleplaying game collaboration from George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones) and BANDAI NAMCO has been a resounding success. Following a similar vein to Dark Souls, Elden Ring offered a massive fantasy world for players to explore. But as any gamer knows, no matter how big a game is, players will reach the end of it sooner or later. Now that a leak has surfaced, what can Elden Ring players look forward to? Check out the details below.

Breaking through the barriers

Developed by FromSoftware (makers of the hit Dark Souls series of games), Elden Ring has received impressive critical and financial success in a short span of time. The game offers a sprawling open world through realms called The Lands Between. Fans have been very vocal about their praise for the innovations that make Elden Rings unique, even compared to the previous expectations and standards set by the Dark Souls series of games. Many consider Elden Ring as a worthy rival to the Bethesda Elder Scrolls standalone roleplaying games such as Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim due to the sheer size and the sense of a living, breathing environment. Plus, there is a wide array of play styles available thanks to multiple classes, skills, spells, and gear to be discovered which offers endless replay factor. Yet, despite all this, there are already hardcore players who have breached the endgame. One such hardcore gamer is Lance McDonald. McDonald is a noted member of the gaming and modding community for the Dark Souls and Bloodborne series. In a YouTube video, McDonald shared an interesting discovery for Elden Ring. A mysterious coliseum area is shown in the video. Outwardly, it is located through a locked and generally inaccessible door. McDonald is able to explore it using a camera mod.

— Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) March 6, 2022 The coliseum is comprised of several sections, including spectator levels, the main arena, and what appears to be a gladiator pit that serves as the entrance and exit. It has similarities to the PVP arena that was featured in Dark Souls 2. Other than the polygonal structure and basic textures, the coliseum McDonald discovered does not have any other distinguishing features, or interactive elements. In addition, players who might explore the current location of the coliseum will encounter an AI invader that drops items that are required for multiplayer. This might be an early indication that the coliseum will be a PVP staging area. Although Elden Ring already has multiplayer PVP to a limited extent, it does not have a specifically dedicated location for just this purpose, something that would certainly be ideal given the surface area the leaked coliseum covers. Another potential future use for the coliseum is for a special quest with a boss battle, perhaps a boss rush mode. Boss rush has been a popular mod for Dark Souls and Bloodborne nearly had an actual boss rush built in. Could Elden Ring finally have this popular play option as a DLC? Regardless, it will likely have new items, equipment, weapons, and story content if and when the update is confirmed.

No official confirmation

The potential DLC leak has been shared on social media for over 24 hours. However, FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO have been quiet on the matter. This is not unusual as FromSoftware, Takeshi Miyazoe, and Hidetaka Miyazaki have notoriously kept news of expansions and sequels of their games close to the chest. If history with the Souls games and Bloodborne proves to be consistent, an official confirmation of the Elden Ring DLC expansion will not be released until six months to a year after the main game’s release. Given this, Elden Ring fans should expect an announcement and possibly a teaser trailer around summer to late 2022. What do fans think about the potential Elden Ring DLC as a multiplayer arena with more PVP and boss rush features? So far the response to the leak is mixed, but the general consensus is that players are looking forward to more content. Elden Ring is out now for the Sony Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, Microsoft Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Windows PC platforms.
