EA’s chief operating officer, Laura Miele, had this to say in the official announcement: According to Bloomberg, the seeds of the partnership were initially planted four years ago when Miele sought advice from Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, on overseeing EA’s massive fleet of gaming studios. She later reached out during the pandemic and established rapport with Jay Ong, Executive Vice President at Marvel Games. This all led to the deal that will start with EA Motive’s Iron Man game, which recently began playtesting. Unfortunately, EA refused to reveal more about the other Marvel titles it’s currently working on. However, EA claims this strategy is part of the company’s attempt to attract customers it usually doesn’t cater to with its popular titles. We can only assume that EA is talking about its best-selling sports franchises, which includes FIFA and Madden NFL, as well as its shooter series, Battlefield, among others. Some are speculating that EA is working on a Black Panther game that’s different from Amy Hennig’s Marvel game. The former Uncharted creative director is developing a Marvel game featuring both Black Panther and Captain America that’s set in World War 2. If we assume that Black Panther and Iron Man are the leads of their respective games by EA, this leaves the third title as the only one that hasn’t been leaked and/or confirmed. If you do a quick accounting of everything that EA is working on with Disney, you’ll find out that it’s got a lot going on. In addition to Iron Man and the still-unconfirmed Black Panther game as well as the third title, EA’s leading subsidiary, Respawn Entertainment, is hard at work on three separate Star Wars games. The first one, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is expected to launch early next year. The other two are a stylish Star Wars-themed first-person shooter helmed by Peter Hirschmann (Medal of Honor) and a strategy game with Greg Foerstch’s Bit Reactor. With two single-player, narrative-driven Marvel games already on the docket, we wouldn’t be surprised if EA goes ahead and greenlights an FPS featuring the Winter Soldier or the Punisher.
