McGregor last portrayed Luke and Anakin Skywalker’s mentor on the big screen in 2005. However, fans still remember him for his masterful portrayal of the legendary Jedi Master. More than a decade later, McGregor is set to reprise his iconic role in the upcoming Disney Plus TV series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Although Disney has not confirmed a release date for the Star Wars spin-off yet, McGregor just confirmed that filming for the series has wrapped up.
McGregor thinks that Obi-Wan Kenobi “will not disappoint”
Obi-Wan Kenobi started filming earlier this year, with reports of the pilot season finishing filming back in August. Now, the show’s main protagonist, McGregor, has confirmed that they are done filming. McGregor also made a comment on how using new technology made filming Obi-Wan Kenobi different from the prequel trilogy.

It will follow McGregor’s Obi-Wan as he seeks refuge following the Jedi Order’s collapse. Technically, McGregor isn’t the first actor to portray the senior Jedi. Alec Guinness originally portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars trilogy series. Then again, most fans probably grew up watching McGregor’s take on the legendary Jedi Master who was responsible for training both Anakin and Luke Skywalker. Speaking of Anakin, Hayden Christensen is also set to reprise his iconic role as the prophesized Chosen One and Darth Vader. Other Star Wars prequel alums are set to rejoin McGregor and Christensen for the first time in years as well. Returning cast members include Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, who portrayed Owen and Beru Lars, respectively. The upcoming TV series will also welcome fresh faces like Moses Ingram, Sung Kang, Rupert Friend, Indira Varma, Simone Kessel, Kumail Nanjiani, Benny Safdie, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Neither Disney nor McGregor has confirmed a release date for the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series. However, given that the filming wrapped up around August or September, Star Wars fans can expect the first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi to arrive on Disney+ before 2022 ends. In the meantime, Star Wars fans can watch the Making of the Season 2 Finale featuring Mark Hamill’s return as Luke on Disney+.
