According to Ubisoft’s latest financial report, Skull and Bones is still in development with a 2023 fiscal year release window. This means that the game might come out before March 31, 2023. Of course, since this is Skull and Bones we’re talking about, the game could very well be delayed again. The game has been synonymous with delays ever since it was announced in 2017 and was even slated to launch this year back in May. Not to mention, with the game’s co-director having left the company in January, development on Skull and Bones is not looking good. Having said that, Ubisoft still deserves the benefit of the doubt. As much as it might seem reasonable to count out Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s constant updates suggest that the company is still very much invested in the game. If nothing else, the continued interest from Ubisoft makes it less likely that Skull and Bones will go the way of Star Wars 1313 and other infamously canceled games. If Skull and Bones is still indeed on course for a 2023 release, we should hear more about the game within the next few months. Even if E3 2022 is canceled entirely, Ubisoft is big enough to hold its showcase revolving around its titles. After all, the French publisher is sitting on a handful of games that are in development. On top of Skull & Bones, fans are looking forward to the remakes of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, as well as The Division: Heartland, among others. Plus, releasing Skull and Bones in 2023 gives Ubisoft a chance to focus on the rumored stealth-oriented Assassin’s Creed game and do away with the naval battles. At the end of the day, the ball is in Ubisoft’s court. The good news is that Ubisoft appears down to play and the studio believes in its vision enough to want to see Skull & Bones through.
