The Rock’s last proper appearance was at Wrestlemania 29 back in 2013, when he fought and lost against John Cena in the main event. It is then ironic that nearly a decade since that fateful night, it is Cena who is also hoping for “The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment” to come back.

Is The Rock returning to the WWE?

The Rock has had an incredibly busy filming schedule these past few years and it’s not set to let up for the near future. After wrapping up filming on Black Adam, The Rock is set to star alongside Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot in Netflix’s Red Notice. After this, he’s off to lend his talents for the DC League of Super-Pets animated film, along with talks of production on Hobbs & Shaw 2 expected to start filming anytime within the next year or two. Even for someone who seems to have limitless energy, his filming schedule is not something that would allow for a return to the WWE, even if only for a single match. In an interview with Ash Crossan of Entertainment Tonight, John Cena revealed how happy it would make him to see The Rock return to the WWE. Cena, who is also a bonafide WWE superstar with legit Hollywood credentials - Cena is set to star in The Suicide Squad and The Peacemaker TV series - clarified that he didn’t want to speak for The Rock. Instead, he says that he is merely a “fan of WWE” that thinks Johnson’s WWE return “would be special for everyone.” Speaking of returning to the WWE, John Cena is expected to start wrestling once again. It is his return that sparked rumors of Johnson coming back to the WWE, if only for a brief moment. This is especially after Cena talked about squaring up against The Rock in the DCEU and also the fact that 2021’s Survivor Series marks the 25th anniversary of The Rock’s WWE debut. According to speculation, The Rock will appear at this year’s Survivor Series. He would then reportedly pick a fight against Roman Reigns which would all culminate in the main event match at WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022. Speaking of Reigns, the gargantuan actor has threatened both Cena and Johnson to stay away from the WWE. In particular, he’s proud of how he’s lorded over Friday Night SmackDown, which has allowed him to retain the Universal Championship for nearly a full calendar year.
