The hype created after the artwork reveal has taken the internet by storm, and leakers have been doing fans’ bidding by sharing critical information. Dataminers have managed to find information about the game editions, pre-order bonuses, cross-gen bundle, and open beta.

It seems Modern Warfare 2 will offer three main editions: Standard Edition, Cross-Gen Bundle, and the Vault Edition. Here’s what each edition will offer in terms of content: Standard Edition

Modern Warfare 2 Open beta early access Other items to be announced

Cross-Gen Bundle

Modern Warfare 2 (Cross-Gen Version) Open beta early access (first on PlayStation) Other items to be announced

Vault Edition

Modern Warfare 2 Open beta early access Battle Pass (Season 1) with 50 Tier Skips Red Team Operator Pack containing Ghost, Soap, Price, & Fara Operator Skins FJX Cinder Weapon Vault 10 hours of Double XP and 10 hrs of Double Weapon XP Ghost Legacy Pack containing 12 Operator Skins & 10 Weapon Blueprints

The description of the Ghost Legacy Pack in Vault Edition states that the content is “Instantly available in Modern Warfare and Warzone,” which raises some questions regarding the new engine and its integration. We’ve been under the impression that due to Warzone 2 having a brand new engine, we wouldn’t be able to utilize our weapon blueprint and operator skins from the games up until Vanguard. However, this description completely contradicts that speculation. It is still hard to say whether the “Modern Warfare and Warzone” are just placeholders or refer to the new Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. This will be revealed as we get closer to the release date. Another important thing to note is no mention of Alpha before the Open Beta release. So far, we’ve only seen the mentioning of Open Beta suggesting that the game is in a mint state and ready for players to try out. This is plausible given the game has been under development for the past three years. Moreover, the PlayStation exclusivity deal seems to still be in place, considering Microsoft still hasn’t gone through the Activision acquisition officially. This was expected since Microsoft has stated that they will honor Activision’s current contract even after the closing of the deal. The PlayStation exclusivity is expected to be lifted once the deal goes through officially. But for now, PlayStation still holds the marketing contract for Call of Duty.

Microsoft’s acquisition won’t be finalized for a while, and Microsoft already said they will honor Activision’s contracts with PlayStation after close. pic.twitter.com/qI9HRGFQl5 — CharlieIntel (@charlieINTEL) May 24, 2022 Speaking of exclusivity, the contract between Activision and PlayStation is the reason why the Open Beta will be available first on PlayStation. PC and Xbox Open Beta will follow soon after. Regardless of the platform, pre-ordering any version of the game allows you to participate in the Open Beta, which is expected soon after the predicted June 8, 2022, reveal of the game. The game is set to release on October 28, 2022, for all major platforms including PC, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
