Resident Evil Village Review Scores

Resident Evil Village is the eighth mainline installment in the iconic Resident Evil franchise. It will serve as a narrative sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil Biohazard, with events set roughly three years following those of Resident Evil Biohazard. Resident Evil Village will see the return of Resident Evil Biohazard protagonist, Ethan Winters, as well as Chris Redfield. However, unlike in Resident Evil Biohazard, Ethan isn’t out searching for his wife. Instead, the game opens up to Chris Redfield leading a series of agents as they take out Ethan’s wife, Mia, while kidnapping their daughter, Rosemary. This is where our spoiler of Resident Evil Village’s story ends, but what we will say is that the game will see Ethan head on over to a European village as he scours the mountains for traces of Rosemary. Resident Evil Village takes a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4, which many consider as the best Resident Evil game of all time. So much so that some consider Resident Evil Village as the true Resident Evil 4 remake. Ironically, there is a VR remake of Resident Evil 4 in the works, expected to release sometime in 2021. Going back to Resident Evil Village, the game’s primary setting is in a quaint village whose citizens revere a certain Mother Miranda, who is apparently the leader of the four lords that govern different domains located at the outskirts of the village. Among them is Lady Dimitrescu, the gigantic vampire lady, who lords over Castle Dimitrescu. Similar to Resident Evil Biohazard, Resident Evil Village will not feature zombies as prominently as its predecessors. Instead, players will have to contend against multiple types of enemies. This includes, as already mentioned, vampires, as well as werewolves, and much more.

What Are The Critics Saying About Resident Evil Village?

At the moment, the different versions of Resident Evil Village hold an aggregate score ranging from 82% (Xbox Series X) up to 85% (PC). Critics, content creators, and even players, alike, just can’t seem to get enough of Resident Evil Village. PC Gamer describes Resident Evil Village as the “scariest Resident Evil yet” with GameSpot giving the survival-horror title a 9 out of 10, criticizing how the game’s last few hours play out and how the story feels like it was forced to connect to previous Resident Evil games. Here’s Resident Evil Village’s current review scores:

GameInformer - 9.25 GameSpot - 9/10 PushSquare - 9 IGN - 8/10 Destructoid - 9 PC Gamer - 85/100 Venture Beat - 4/5 GamesRadar - 3.5/5

Also worth noting is how well the Resident Evil Village performs on different platforms. Contrary to earlier leaks, Resident Evil Village performs best on the PC. The game also seems to hit 60 frames per second more consistently on the Xbox Series X compared to the PlayStation 5. However, performance across all platforms seems consistently good. Some are even having luck running Resident Evil Village smoothly on a $500 gaming PC. While these reviews can help you decide if Resident Evil Village is worth buying or not, you’re better off deciding yourself. The good news is that the Resident Evil Village demo is still available. Anyone interested can still hop on their preferred platformer and download a copy of the Resident Evil Village demo. The hour-long demo will remain available until May 9 or May 10, depending on where you live. Just in case an hour isn’t enough, we put together a quick guide on how to replay the demo on the PC.
