The publishers behind the Battlefield franchise, along with its longtime lead development studio, dropped the announcement after a series of leaks over the past few days suggested that the open beta for the upcoming Battlefield installment was going to come soon.

When is the Battlefield 2042 open beta going to happen?

According to EA and DICE’s most recent press release, the Battlefield 2042 open beta will start on October 8 and end on October 10. In addition to this, those who pre-ordered Battlefield 2042 and EA Play members will have access to the open beta for an extra two days on October 6. The announcement lines up with the recent leaks from the Chinese streaming service Bilibili and Tom Henderson. Battlefield 2042 is going up against heavy competition later this year. The worst part is that it’s not coming in as the heavy favorite. After the dismal reviews that 2018’s Battlefield V got, EA and DICE need to prove that it still has what it takes to make a proper AAA shooter. As it’s set to release in between Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite, both of which have had largely successful playtests already, Battlefield 2042 will need to impress gamers. Although 48 hours isn’t long enough (96 hours if you pre-ordered the game), it’s a good start. With Battlefield 2042 delayed to November 19, EA and DICE can use the data from the open beta to tweak Battlefield 2042 and make sure that it’s firing on all cylinders at launch.

What is included in the Battlefield 2042 open beta?

Battlefield 2042’s open beta will take place on the Orbital map together with the game’s massive 128-player Conquest game mode. Unfortunately, due to hardware limitations, PS4 and Xbox One users can’t exceed 64 players in a match. Even if it’s only one mode, Conquest features several objectives that are scattered all over the map. Players will need to use everything at their disposal like tanks and jets. Not only will players have to worry about getting shot at by more than 100 others, but the environment itself is just as dangerous. We’ve seen from earlier trailers that tornadoes can ravage the map and change the landscape. Players will also have access to four different specialists in the Battlefield 2042 open beta: Webster Mackay, Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, Maria Falck, and Wikus “Casper” van Daele. Each one comes with its unique ability that’s sure to come in handy when you’re battling in anything ranging from forests to deserts and cities and everything in between. Keep in mind that Battlefield 2042 will not have a single-player campaign. This means that Battlefield 2042 is going to be as good as it’s going to be during the open beta, for better or for worse.
