The Rock wants to be the next James Bond
In a Q&A with Esquire magazine, Johnson revealed that he remembers how his grandfather played a villainous role in Sean Connery’s You Only Live Twice. The 1967 film saw the MI6 operative head over to Tokyo after faking his death in Hong Kong. Just as he arrives, Bond is given a mission to find out the person behind the hijacking of NASA’s Jupiter 16 spacecraft. Although Johnson’s grandfather, Peter Maivia, did not play a significant role in the film, he is cited as one of the movie’s villainous car drivers. However, if Johnson is to join a Bond movie, he reveals that he’s “got to be Bond” and just like that, the whole world just started cheering. Johnson’s physicality and size don’t fit the standard 007 physique, but whoever said that the dashing debonaire couldn’t be big as well as bold? Not to mention, Johnson has proven many times how he can look suave and cool while wearing a tuxedo or a suit. With that said, just because Johnson wants to play James Bond, this doesn’t mean he will. The search is still on for Craig’s successor after he wrapped up his tenure with 2021’s No Time to Die. Craig has previously confirmed that he doesn’t care who replaces him. Meanwhile, several others are in the running as well. For example, Christopher McQuarrie believes that Henry Cavill will make an excellent Bond. Then again, the actor himself would argue he’d be better off playing as a different English character in Captain Britan for the MCU. In the meantime, fans of the future WWE Hall of Famer can catch him starring alongside Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice. On the other hand, the hardcore gamer Henry Cavill will return as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 2, which will debut on Netflix on December 17. Also, IO Interactive is working on a James Bond game, so fans of 007 can also look forward to that.
