So far, Modern Warfare 2 has proven to be quite popular with fans even if it isn’t technically out yet. The beta period was the most successful in Call of Duty history. More importantly, the early access campaign has done wonders for the game’s marketing. Early impressions of the game are calling Modern Warfare 2 a true next-gen game and it’s thanks to its support for 4K visuals and 120 FPS. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox Series X or the PS5 or the Xbox Series S. As The Xbox Tester proves, Modern Warfare 2 looks mighty impressive on the Series S as well. Impressed doesn’t even begin to describe what early access Modern Warfare 2 players are feeling right now. After two successive disappointing mainline entries, the Call of Duty franchise is finally back on track. But, after years of sticking to the same formula, Activision Blizzard is finally trying something new. Instead of releasing MW2 in one go, Infinity Ward is staggering Modern Warfare 2 content. The first step was to release the campaign for those who pre-ordered the game. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is next on Friday, October 28. Afterward, Warzone 2.0 and DMZ will roll out on November 16 with Raids following suit as more content arrives by 2023. It’s a drip-feeding approach that has gotten a positive reception from fans and developers alike. Fans are loving the slow approach as it gives them time to enjoy what’s currently available while also giving them something to look forward to. On the other hand, it gives developers more time to concentrate on each part. Having said that, the multiple tests early access players are currently running on Modern Warfare 2 right now prove just how optimized the game is. Players can run the single-player campaign on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at 4K resolution and enjoy a stable 60FPS. For those who prefer higher framerates, the game runs at a stable 120 FPS (with slight dips) at 1440p. Finally, the most surprising part is how well Modern Warfare 2 performs on the Xbox Series S at 1440p at 60FPS and 1080p at 120FPS. If nothing else, Infinity Ward and Modern Warfare 2 are living proof that the Xbox Series S isn’t holding back the current console generation. Fingers crossed, the ongoing success of Modern Warfare 2 will give Infinity Ward a chance to work on their “dream” spin-off featuring Simon “Ghost” Riley.
